Murphy’s Law For Harley Davidsons

An amended set of Murphy’s Laws – just for Harley Davidsons:

  • It will always cost more than you expected.
  • It will always take longer to fix than you thought.
  • At least 2/3 of the parts you need will have to be ordered.
  • At least 1/3 of the parts you ordered will be delayed.
  • The book doesn’t tell you everything.

The guys replaced Dutch’s handlebars with new ape hangers this weekend and all of the above rules applied. The new Soft Tail Classics have a super fancy security system and crazy things happen when you disconnect the battery. And by crazy, I mean when the bike thinks someone is trying to steal it, it either blasts the horn non-stop or the bike plays dead. No lights, no ignition, no NOTHING! Of course, the book can’t tell you how to re-instate the security system or the system would only protect against thieves that didn’t own the book. J So, the good news is apparently it is a pretty easy fix. The bad news is they have to load the bike up and take it to Harley. More good news is when you are looking for answers on the internet you can find some pretty cool forums. HD Forums has lots of stuff – a Tech forum, a forum for upcoming rides, and even a spot to submit photos for Photoshop editing. Bookmark it for future reference – never can tell when you might need some extra help fighting off Murphy…

  1. Hey on an up note, looks like Dutch taught his bike a few cool tricks, “Speak” and “Play Dead”! Pretty impressive I’d say!!!!
Aaaahhhhh yes, the male ego!! It just never allows them to say “Hello Harley, OK so here I was trying to do it myself” “Yes Sir, it appears that I did f*&# it up” “No sir, I don’t think I can fix it what I did” “Yes sir, I will bring it right down so you and the other machanics can fix it and then laugh when I leave” “Thank you and I will see you soon” “What’s that?? oh yeah, of course I’ll be bringing my credit card.”
    Hee Hee Hee!!!!!
